So inspired by seeing the Roman nude sculpture known as the Esquiline Venus for the first time, British artist Poynter fleshed out his idyllic beauty in a sumptuous court, tying her hair up before her spa bath. Labeled indecent by society patrons of its day, the work was defended by its artist who claimed the forced introduction of drapery would be a prudery which would increase evil. Our authentic stretched canvas replica captures the original painting's texture, depth of color, and even its brushstrokes, which are applied by hand. It is surrounded by our imported, antique gold-toned, delicately sculpted 4" wide designer resin frame with a leaf motif.
